- Tim Wall

A while back, I did a blog series about using Facebook for business. If you missed it, you can find the articles at the following links: part 1, part 2, part 3.
In that series, I essentially concluded that while Facebook was a powerful tool, the jury was still out on whether it could become a valuable tool for business. One of my main hesitations was the availability of applications that can work on Facebook pages (rather than just on Facebook profiles).
Well, since some time has gone by I just thought I'd offer a follow up. In my opinion, the jury is still out. Things haven't really gotten any better with regards to Facebook apps. In fact, they've gotten a little worse, at least on our page. The one app we were using that actually worked was TwitterSync and now, due to the demise of TwitterIM, that app is broken as well. I recently searched through the apps again to see if there were any better RSS or Twitter applications available with page support, and again came up empty-handed.
So, our company Facebook page is still there. It still pulls in our blog posts via a very rudimentary configuration and, I occassionally add photos from company events or activities (I still do think that Facebook's photo app is one of the best around). But I am loathe to promote or pour any more energy into the page until it is actually useful in some way.
If you've found a good way to use Facebook for your business, let us know in the comments. Otherwise, I'll just continue to look at the pretty new graphics from the Facebook redesign (which, by the way, hardly even affects Facebook pages) and wish that things worked better.
