It has been a very hectic week for us as it has been for many, many of our friends and neighbors in Oklahoma. Power outages still persist across the state and tree damage is intense. We are thankful for all of our customers who have shown us tremendous patience and support through this ordeal. Even though the vast majority of our customers were 100% unaffected by the events of this week, we are deeply sorry for the inconvenience caused to those who were affected.
We are also grateful to all of our team members who scrambled for power and an internet connection and worked tirelessly this week not only to bring our systems back online but to continue supporting our existing clients and developing new projects as well.
The Week in Review
Here is a quick look at our system's status over the course of the week.
| Monday, 12:00pm |
Power lost. Systems at 75%
|
| Monday, 2:00pm |
All DNS for Water, Sky and Light transferred to Dallas. Systems at 80% |
| Tuesday, 5:00pm |
Locally hosted sites transferred to Dallas throughout the day. Systems at 90% |
Wednesday, 9:00am
|
Transfers complete and power restored. Systems at 100% |
As you can see, at the worst point, 75% of our hosted websites were fully functional and the affected 25% were fully restored in less than 48 hours. Yet, this still represents the worst hosting outage in our company's history and we know that for the 25% of you that were impacted, any length of downtime is too long. That is why we have taken steps to vastly improve the hosting situation for all of our client websites.
Hosting Now Provided at our Tier-four Data Center in Dallas
As a result of our team's work during the outage, our client websites have not only been restored, they have also been relocated to our tier four data center in Dallas. The majority of our websites were already running in the Dallas data center, but now, barring a few sites which remain on our local servers due to special circumstances (these sites will eventually be moved to Dallas as well as their issues are resolved), all of our hosting operations take place in our fully redundant Dallas data center. This now provides all our clients with an extremely high level of hosting security to protect against future catastrophes.
The Dallas data center is located inside the Infomart Telecom Hotel, the largest internet hub in the southern United States. The facility is powered by three redundant power grids, multiple battery backups and multiple generators. It is connected to the internet by five fiber optic internet connections from five different providers. There are multiple redundancies on all critical systems, plus there is intensive physical security. In short, there is no better place to host a website. All of our clients can now enjoy the security that this top-tier hosting environment provides.
Final Issues
We know that as a result of this server move, some of our custom application clients may still be experiencing localized issues and we are hard at work to resolve those. If your site experiences any issues, please contact us at support@elementfusion.com and we will quickly resolve them.
Thank you again for your support and patience. We are proud to serve as your internet partner and we believe our new hosting structure will allow us to be an even stronger support to your business as we look forward to the future.
