Five resolutions for a better website: start 2008 off right!

Of course, it's that time of the year again. The time when I have to wait in line for the equipment I need at my gym (it's getting so crowded in there this week). So, while we're all in the spirit of setting forth goals and resolutions for the new year, why not do the same for your online presence.

Do you have a website for your business or for yourself? How will you improve it this year? Here are five resolutions you might consider making to improve your online presence in 2008.

  1. I resolve to blog. If you already have a blog, commit to writing more frequently. Set a goal for how many posts per week or per month you will make. If you don't have a blog, commit to start one. Ideally, a business blog will integrate into your company website on the same domain. If you're using our software, this is no problem because blogs are built right in.
  2. I resolve to change out some old images on my site. If you've had a website for any length of time, you most likely have some images that are out of date, or that in other ways could be improved. It's a new year! Take some new photos and load them up.
  3. I resolve to better promote my events online. More than likely, your business hosts or at least participates in events throughout the year. Utilize an event calendar and put those events up on your site. Events are great because they give your visitors the impression that your site is timely and current.
  4. I resolve to improve my website design. Maybe your site is getting to the point that it just needs a makeover. If you're a designer, why not resolve to schedule yourself some hours to redesign your own site? If you're not a designer, this one might take some funding, but there's no time the present when you're website needs a face lift.
  5. I resolve to help my site get noticed. Having an online presence is great, but if no one ever visits, it's not doing much good. Why not market your website to drive more traffic and ultimately more business? Here are a few simple things to consider that can help:
    1. Get people you know to link to your site
    2. Add new content regularly (see point #1 on starting a blog)
    3. Buy online ads
    4. Hire Element Fusion to setup an Internet Marketing strategy just for you.
How will you improve your online presence in 2008? Set your goals now and give your website the attention it deserves.

Blogging is such an underrated art. Many business owners think it's not worth their time. While blogging might not immediately pay off in sales, it can be one of the sole content sections that can stay constantly fresh on your website. It's more powerful than people think.
