Giveaway finalist: Durant Family Medicine Residency Program

[The following content was provided by Durant Family Medicine Residency Program. Cast your vote for Durant Family Medicine Residency Program or check out our other finalists on our finalists page.]

The Durant Family Medicine Residency Program is a non-profit teaching facility that trains doctors to work in rural communities. Our residents provide free care to local university students and free services at local fairs, such as blood pressure screening and blood sugar checks. Our physicians also treat indigent patients in the clinic, providing discounts to them that make it their care affordable. We also have a patient assistance program established in our clinic to help with the rising cost of medicine. We offer our community affordable healthcare, and our skilled residents work long hours to make it happen.

Although many medical students in nearby states actively seek a program like this, our current website does not adequately portray the opportunities available with us. Many wonderful doctors have passed us by because they were not aware that our residency program existed. A simple way to update an effective and efficient website would also allow us to recognize our residents’ hard work and to allow our patients to provide us with quality feedback.

As one of the residents, we would be very grateful for this opportunity. Our clinic can only survive if we are able to recruit residents to staff it. Our services also extend into the hospital where much of our training occurs. We are able to service quite a large area as there are very few resources available in SE Okahoma. Thank you for your vote.

I am also one of the residents and I would greatly appreciate a new website because it will not only assist the residents by posting important scheduling information so that we can communicate better, but also allow us to use it as a recruting tool. We need more family medicine physicians in south east Oklahoma. Since we are a non-profit clinic, we cannot afford a super nice website and its up keep. This will really benefit our residency program.

I am very thankful for this clinic. I am a nurse at the local hospital and deal with our residents all the time.. They are courteous and friendly to the nursing staff. (always a big plus) Our calls are returned immediatly another big plus.. and any time we have a question even if it is 3 in the morning and we call them they dont complain and are never snappy.. That says alot about the staff at this place. and when we turn around and call again at 315 am we get the same nice responses. all that said on a professional basis.. I am also a patient at this clinic as are my 7 children. I am able to see my doctor with ease and everyone at the clinic are nice and while it is a community type clinic I have never seen a patient treated differently whether they are a patient with insurance or without I love this clinic.

This is absolutely the BEST residency program in the state. I am a proud alumni of this internship/residency. It was so nice to be a part of a program where people genuinely cared for one another. I appreciated everyone's hard work to help us be successful towards becoming the best physicians possible; everyone from nurses at the clinic and hospital, administration, attendings, etc. I miss everyone (but am glad to no longer be in residency!!).
