How to get something reviewed by bloggers

I've been working a lot on getting our products reviewed on various blogs.  I've had a little bit of success, and met some great people along the way.  I thought I'd share just a few tips in case you ever find yourself interested in tackling this.

  1. Recognize that it is hard -- Don't go in thinking that this is the easy way to get marketing for your product.  It will take time and effort to be successful.
  2. Don't spam -- Don't go scrape a bunch of email addresses and blast a form letter to everyone.  You're asking someone to spend some time to do something for you, so you ought to be willing to spend time enough to send them their own individual email.  See #1 again.
  3. Research -- Take the time to find blogs that fit your target audience and that publish the type of content you are suggesting.  Again, this takes time.  See #1 again.
  4. Be nice -- Send a well written, friendly note.  If you get a response, enjoy the dialog.  As I said, one of the nice things about this process is getting to meet some great people in your field.

I'd love to use your product...but your prices are too high for me to resell. And from what I've been reading in the blogs...others are feeling the same way. My clients MIGHT pay what you're charging for wholesale, but they'd never pay the MSRP rates. If you could drop the prices so that I could charge what you're charging resellers, I'd be on in a minute.

Hey Ryan, thanks for the feedback. We listen closely to all of the feedback we receive about pricing, as well as keeping a close eye on all of the other solutions out there. It's a tough line to walk, but we do feel that we are fairly priced for the quality of product we are offering. Again, I thank you for sharing your thoughts because it definitely helps us and may influence us as we make decisions down the road.
