SEO Checklist

I was making my way through Search Engine Land today and ran across an article about certain elements that need to be in place for a newly designed website, an SEO Checklist. After reading this I thought to myself how wonderful our Content Management System is because it actually handles these tasks for you.

  1. Use Robots.txt - With LightCMS robots.txt files are automatically added from the time you setup your account. You do not have the ability to add restrictions on certain folders but maybe that will come in a future update.
  2. Submit site map to search engines - Although LightCMS doesn't submit the sitemap for you, it does however dynamically create the most current version of your page structure. View our XML sitemap
  3. Off-load functionality code - Hey we can't do everything for you, but if you use HTML Xpress we will make sure you're covered.
  4. Use distinct SEO friendly page titles - Done, every time you create a new page or blog post the system creates a SEO friendly URL that is the same as the title of the page or blog post.
  5. Use proper meta tags - Once again, its like you know what I am going to say. You can add/edit/delete meta tags when creating or editing a page
  6. Do not use frames - Although I would like to say this is handled by the CMS you could add frames to your site if you really wanted to.
  7. Have a website map page - Again this is done just like the XML sitemap View our HTML sitemap
  8. Have a 404 Error Handling Page - You guessed it, it's done. You can type anything after http://www.elementfusion.com and you will be redirected to our sitemap page so you can find what you were looking for.
As you can see our CMS has everything built in so you don't have to worry about your site being SEO friendly, SEO optimized is another story. If you would like to be found in the search engines please fill out our free search engine analysis form and a consultant will contact you.

Recently, I just learned the the Author meta tag helps the rank of your company name when placed in this tag. I have more that one website, and this worked half the time to improve the name of my url name. This is what I put in the tag.

The only other three meta tags I use are keywords, description and http-equiv="Content-Type."
