Shortcut URLs added to Water, Sky and Light

Until now, webpages within Water, Sky and Light have been referenced by complex URLs looking something like http://www.mysite.com/default.aspx?p=14437 or similar.  Not anymore.  Introducing shortcuts, our way of making your pages more accessible for you and search engines alike.

Easily reference your pages.

Every page in Sky now has a simple web address, based on the page title by default. For example, if you name your page "About us," you can access that page at "http://www.mysite.com/about-us." Sky creates the page name for you automatically whenever you add a new page.

If you want, you can override the default shortcut and use whatever shortcut you like for any page in your site. So, if you want to access your page at "http://www.mysite.com/this-is-the-greatest-web-page-in-the-world," feel free. The power of shortcuts is now in your hands.

It works on blog posts and calendar events too.

Every blog post and every calendar event also gets its own friendly URL. As with pages, these are automatically created based on the title of your post or event, but you can override the defaults at any time if you wish.

Great for you. Great for SEO.

Shortcuts not only make your addresses easier to remember and easier to share with others, they also have great value to search engine optimization. Including keywords in your URLs is one key component of SEO. When used correctly, shortcuts can be a great SEO tool.

How to get started.

Shortcuts have already been activated on your Sky websites. The default configurations have already been engaged for all pages, events and blog posts. However, the older, more complex addresses still work, so if you have links pointing to those addresses, don't worry, everything should still function normally.

All automatically generated links on your site have been updated, but if you have manually created any links to pages, events or posts within your sites, you may want to update those links to use the new shortcuts.

If you want to change the default shortcut for a page, simply click on "page settings" and you will see an area where you can update the shortcut (see page settings image below). To change the shortcut for an event or blog post, click the edit icon next to the event or post you wish to edit.
