So you’ve decided to take that step to go all out for your business and embrace the multi-billion dollar market called the Internet. The Internet can give you the most reliable sales person that will be there 24 hours per day giving your existing and potential clients the most accurate information about your business. Getting started on this new venture can be very exhaustive and may even seem like you are learning a foreign language. Some tips on what to look for when getting your company online:
-
Choose your partner wisely. Everyone has a cousin, uncle, brother or sister that thinks they are an Internet Guru because they have mastered the art of Front Page. This is great for those of you whose cousin/uncle/brother /sister is immersed in Internet trends, color theories, web and user interaction and search engine algorithms because this usually translates into discounted services.
For the other 99.9% of the world make sure you do your research. Ask to see a portfolio, case studies and references; every company that has been in the business should be able to provide you with all of this information to help you make an informed decision.
Ask them to walk you through their normal design process. If it does not start out with an initial meeting between you and the designer…run. The planning meeting is important to set goals and give the person who will be working on your site, a chance to find out how to showcase your business on the Internet.
The guy who did my brochure does websites. Great, but there is a very huge gap in print design and web design. Make sure that the guy who did your print brochure or logo designs websites that follow the current design trends and that you want his work to represent you on the Internet. Remember the competitiveness online is much greater than your local reach, so your site should represent that also.
- You’ve done the research and picked a partner. Awesome! Now the real work begins. You must make sure that you provide your new Internet marketing partner with as much information as possible in order to get a website that will best represent your company or organization online.
This is part one of a three part series. Check back later this week to find out how your website provider plays a role in getting you listed on the search engines. If you have any questions about the services we provide, fill out our free quote form or contact one of our Internet Consultants.
