Recently, signups for LightCMS from countries outside of the US have increased dramatically. We are thrilled by the international interest in our products and enjoy working with designers from all over the world. Naturally, I believe this increased interest is based on the merits of our product, the new updates that we have been releasing, and other factors. However, I can’t help but wonder if the weaker US dollar is another driving force behind the increases.
According to the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago, one of the advantages of a weak dollar is that “U.S. firms find it easier to sell goods in foreign markets.” Another small little site selling items called Ebay is benefiting from the weaker dollar. “For eBay you're even seeing some people in Europe trying to buy some products on the U.S. eBay site, just (because of) the strength -- the increased power of the euro versus the dollar," said Piper Jaffray analyst Aaron Kessler. Ebay had a $143 million foreign exchange benefit rate in the third quarter 2007, compared to just $21.4 million in the same quarter in 2006.
How have you been affected by the weak US dollar? Has it been a positive or negative effect?
