If you've followed any of my previous two "Holidays with Websites" posts here or here, you will know that I am a big fan of using one of our free WaterCMS websites to help organize my family Christmas gatherings. I wanted to take it a step further this year. I thought to myself, "Self, why not give a free website to someone on your Christmas list?" Knowing that you have probably also asked yourself this question, I pulled together a few ideas on who to give a websites to, and what they could be used for.
Parent:
- Let's say your mom or dad is a part of an association or is on the board of a smaller industry, and they just don't have anyone to get a website started for them. You could be the hero by setting them up with a site and having the latest news and events up for everyone to see.
Niece:
- Although her life revolves around what her friends are doing on Facebook, she might want to have a place to write out her thoughts. Since she can create a password-protected user on her site, only her closest friends can see what she has written or the pictures she has posted.
Nephew:
- He has the latest cheat codes or walk-throughs for Modern Warfare 2, and wants to share them with his friends. Creating a site for him would allow him to put that information up and even add screenshots from the game using the photo gallery. If he wants to converse back and forth with his friends, he could use the blog element and its comment features.
Grandma and/or Grandpa:
- Here they can post all of the spam email forwards they get so that they don't have to send them out to everyone anymore. Teaching them how to copy and paste them into the site would be a big win for everyone in the family.
There are many other ways that you can use a free website from WaterCMS as a gift. If you use any of these examples, or if you want expand upon them please share your thoughts with us in the comments.
