Clients frequently ask me why they “have to use” our hosting in order to use our CMS. I explain that our CMS is offered as “Software as a Service” (SaaS), and I deliver a list of reasons why the SaaS model works better than anything they could buy and install on their own server. I figured I should share the list with all of you, so here are five solid reasons that I believe in SaaS, specifically with regard to our own CMS software:
-
You own your website – the design, content, everything. You’re simply leasing the software. If you want to change providers or CMS systems, our open hands/no handcuffs policy actually makes it easier to change between systems.
- No cost for entry. You don’t have to worry about hosting, development time, or setup time with Saas software. Since everything is already running, we can create a new website on our system within seconds. This can be a cost savings of thousands of dollars.
- Cost Effective. Custom developed software is expensive. We know, we use to sell our CMS systems that way. $5,000, $10,000, $20,000 implementations of our software were common. Now, with Water/Sky/LightCMS and SaaS, we can lease our software for as low as $49/mo. What took us hundreds of thousands of dollars to build we can now pass on to you for a fraction of the cost.
- No maintenance or development fees. With deployable software you have to pay if something needs to be changed or isn’t working correctly. With Water/Sky/LightCMS, we work every day to make it bug-free at no cost to you.
- Free Updates. Upgrades are made to Water/Sky/LightCMS weekly. When your site is deployed into standalone software, it’s usually 2-3 years before you upgrade your CMS. With Element Fusion’s CMS systems, you get the latest, most current version every single day.
In case the list above is not enough, I'd like to share my Lexus Analogy:
Imagine that you buy a brand new Lexus LS 460. It’s a great car. Most likely when you drive it off the lot you will love it and everything it can do for you. And most likely, you’ll be driving and parking that exact same car in your garage for the next 3 or 4 years. Four years from now it will be exactly the same car as it was the day you drove it off the lot. You’ve paid for all the routine maintenance it has needed through the years but it has still gotten no better than the day you bought it. That’s what purchasing a deployed CMS solution is like.
Now imagine another situation. Let’s say you drive that same Lexus off the lot and spin around town showing it off to all your jealous friends. Each night you park it in your garage. Then imagine that each month Lexus comes to your garage and backs the old Lexus out of the garage and replaces it with a brand new one with new bells and whistles each time. So, at the end of four years you are still driving the most up to date Lexus possible, with all the latest features, and you’ve never paid for any maintenance or enhancements.
That is what using a Software as a Service is like, and that's just one reason that our CMS software RULES! Stay tuned for part two coming soon ...
